Saturday 11th February – bike **** Long two rivers, Orwell to the Deben including lunch at Landguard – cloudy with a light breeze.

Despite the gloomy weather we had a great day, Mag did some painting in the porch while I did my exercises, my knee seems to have calmed down, fingers crossed it is getting better? With the wind really light it was ideal for a bike ride so I packed lunch and we set off quite late around 1.30 with the aim of just going to the pier at Landguard. We take the usual route through Langer Park, across Landguard Nature reserve, full of rabbits to our spot on the jetty with the sea like a mill pool set against a moody sky, just lovely. Well rested we return to the prom which was very busy so for a change we turn off down Beach Road before taking the steep path up to Maidstone Road near Mc Donald’s. Then we continue along Gulpher Road but then take a footpath we have never used before on the corner just past the small duck pond. It was a top path which came out by the farm in Marsh Lane so we carry onto Kings Fleet. Up onto the River Deben path and with the tide high and the water very still in the light airs it looked wonderful. I stopped by my favourite boat wrecks to take yet more pics then after a walk around the boat yard we take the coast route back to the Dip. We then take the main road back home for a well deserved cuppa and cake:) Top day!
